KINGFIELD — A new exhibit of photographs called “FROZEN, The Art of Ice & Snow” will open from 5-8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 7, during Kingfield’s Friday Artwalk at the Schoolhouse Gallery at 266 Main Street.

Kingfield Friday Artwalk provides a chance to view art, enjoy refreshments and socialize with friends and neighbors. All Kingfield Friday Artwalk venues are free of charge and open to the public. The exhibit FROZEN features large format photographs taken by John, Cynthia and Jonathan Orcutt of landscapes that are dominated by ice and snow.

Although the freezing, sub-zero temperatures that have defined the winter of 2014 in the high peaks of Maine have made venturing outdoors difficult, the temperatures have also created magnificent sculptural landforms and poetic landscapes. This exhibit captures the stark but often gentle beauty found when water freezes.

Photographic images in FROZEN feature mountains, trees, rivers, lakes, open meadows and waterfalls covered with the white brightness of ice and snow. Most images have been captured here in Maine’s high peaks region, many of them taken this winter.
