GOOD MORNING, MRS. SUN SPOTS: Having just read an article on underage tattoos, I was wondering if you could post the laws for getting tattoos here in Maine, age, etc. I have a teen daughter swearing you can get one if you’re younger than 18 with a parent’s signature, but I’m thinking not. Thanks for your help — Debby Richards, garciasgirl2002@aol.com

ANSWER: You are correct. Your daughter will have to wait until she is 18, according to every government website Sun Spots could find. These include http://tinyurl.com/lkspgdh and http://tinyurl.com/kyterpo.

Your daughter can get a body piercing with your signed consent.

Sun Spots is surprised that there is not an exemption for parental consent — parents usually have a lot of rights — but she couldn’t find one on any reputable website.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I was wondering if there is anybody out there who happens to have a Harmon Hydroflex 60 pellet boiler. I am thinking of buying one, but dealers don’t know a whole lot about them, and they won’t give out names of their customers who have bought one for privacy reasons, and I desperately want to talk to someone who has one. My phone number is 207-364-3976. Thank you. — pjlowell@myfairpoint.net

ANSWER: If no one responds, you might want to check Consumer Reports, which does include pellet stoves in its reviews. If you don’t want to sign up for a long-term subscription, you can access the website for a monthly fee ($6.95) and unsubscribe at any time.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I recently purchased more than 150 candles with drop protectors for a vigil that ended up being held indoors. I would like to offer them to anyone who could use them. Thank you. — Karen Chouinard, cookinwithk@aol.com (preferred contact), 783-7576

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I have to tell you that chivalry is not dead, at least not in Livermore Falls.

The other day I had a doctor’s appointment and had to walk. I didn’t realize until I got part way there how slippery it was. Two lovely ladies came along and helped me get there.

When I started to go home I got about halfway into the parking lot and almost fell. I couldn’t go any farther, so I waited a bit to see which way would be the best.

Lo and behold, a really nice gentleman saw me from across the street and he came over and said “It looks like you need help.” He helped me all the way home, and he was 70 years old. I am close to 90, and if he hadn’t come along, I would have still been standing there.

I hope the Good Lord blesses all three with long and healthful lives! What a good feeling it gave me. — Mary Moulton, Livermore Falls
