1934 – 2014

LEWISTON — Emelia M. Thornton, 79, of Lewiston, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, Jan. 29.

She was born in Frenchville on April 24, 1934, a daughter of the late Alfred and Cecile (Deschesne) Gorneault. She lived in Florida for a time, before moving back to Maine in the 1980s. She was married to Ronnie Thornton; he passed away several years ago.

Emelia belonged to the Prince of Peace Parish, Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul. She worked at Jones and Vining for many years, before retiring in 2000. She was a very social person, who belonged to many clubs, including the Hurricane Club, Lewiston Social and Circle Canadien.

She truly enjoyed camping and spending time with her whole family, as well as playing cards, and was always interested in knowing what was going on in the family circles.

Emelia is survived by her daughter, Linda Feroci and husband, Bob, of Methuen, Mass.; two granddaughters; one great-granddaughter; her siblings, Viola Gorneault, Sylvia Pelkey, Edwina Rodrigue, Armand, Reggie and Lionel Gorneault, Yvette Picard and Lorette Stec; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers, Richard, Reno, Vincent and Donald Gorneault; her sister, Arlene Beland; two half-brothers, Paul Emile and Bert Gorneault; and two half-sisters, Roseane Bauer and Bertha Dube.
