The 22 images of “Making Visible” include his recent series of sunset studies, some fascinating double exposures and his thoughtful work in the relatively new medium of iPhoneography. Though most people do take snapshots with their mobile phones, very few progress to the level of fine art that is expressed in Bartel’s photography.

Born in Ithaca, NY, now living in Lewiston, Bartel explained, “I am a self-taught contemplative and meditative photographer, recording all of my images in digital format. I have found that my camera is simply a means by which I can be more present in and more mindful of my environment, seeing the extraordinary in the ordinary and making it more visible.”

Gallery hours are 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Thursday to Saturday; 5-8 p.m. Friday; and by appointment. The gallery is at 49 Lisbon Street. For more information, call 207-576 4805 or visit www.lyceumgallery@me.com.
