JAY — Emily Keene threw in 15 points and Alex Bessey helped out with 10 as Spruce Mountain shook off St. Dom’s with a 44-38 victory to win the Mountain Valley Conference girls’ basketball title Monday.

The Phoenix built a 26-17 lead by halftime.

For the Saints, Kelly Pomerleau scored a game-high 19 points, and Faith Grady had 10 points.

Lawrence 65, EL 53

AUGUSTA — Nia Irving owned the court, scoring 21 points and leading Lawrence to a 65-53 victory over Edward Little to win the girls’ KVAC basketball title Monday night.

At the half, Lawrence held a 32-25 lead before scoring another 25 points in the final quarter.

Dominique Lewis scored 14 points and Paige Belanger added 17 for the Bulldogs.

For the Red Eddies, Brooke Reynolds scored 15 points and Kory Norcross came across with the team-high 21 points. Tianna Harriman had 12 points.

Boys’ basketball

Dirigo 80, Boothbay 54

JAY — Dirigio won its third Mountain Valley Conference boys’ basketball title in a row, beating Boothbay 80-54 on Monday night.

This is also the third year in a row that Dirigo finished 18-1 in the regular season.

For Dirigo, Riley Robinson had a great game and Tyler Frost scored 14 points, earned eight assists and had six rebounds.

Boys’ hockey

Lewiston 8, Lawrence/Skowhegan 4

WINSLOW — Evan Gosselin netted a pair of goals and added two assists to lead a balanced Lewiston attack as the Blue Devils doubled up Lawrence/Skowhegan 8-4 at Sukee Arena on Monday night.

Matt Poulin had a goal and four assists, Kyle Lemelin added a goal and two helpers, and Griffin Wade, Mak Bolduc, Jeremy Rancourt and Kyle Ulrich added a goal each.

Sam Zashut earned the win between the pipes for Lewiston (12-3-0).

Chase Nelson and Cody Martin had a pair of goals each, and Sam Edmondson made 34 saves for Lawrence/Skowhegan (9-6-0).

College basketball

CMCC 89 , UMA 68

AUBURN — Gabby Foy of Wilton scored the first 10 points of the game, and the Central Maine Community College never looked back in a 89-68 victory over UMaine-Augusta on Tuesday.

Even battling sickness, CM used its depth and pressure defense to overwhelm the Moose from the opening tip.

Foy finished with a game-high 28 points, connecting on 5 of 9 3-pointers. Susie French played limited minutes due the flu, but still chipped in with 10 points. Samantha Bruce came off the bench to hit for 15 points and Laura Soohey finished with 11 points and a team-high 9 rebounds.

Hannah Champagne played another great floor game, finishing with four points, five assists, three steals and only one turnover. Jamie Plummer led the Moose with 20 points.

CMCC 108, UMA 88

AUBURN — Shaun Hill led a balanced Central Maine Community College attack as the Mustangs dropped the University of Maine at Augusta, 108-88, in a men’s basketball game Tuesday night.

CM jumped out early with full-court pressure and led 33-12 at the 12-minute mark.

UMA fought back but couldn’t handle the Mustang pressure and behind the first half 68-43.

Jalen Lincoln contributed 13 points, Luis Medina and Raymond “Chiefy” Monroe each chipped in with 12 points.

Race walking

Dunn earns accolade

GOSHEN, Ind. – After another strong performance, sophomore Abby Dunn (Auburn, Maine) was selected as the Springer Design Maple Leaf Athlete of the Week. The race walker also earned Crossroads League Track Athlete of the Week, picked for action between February 2-8.

Already qualified for the NAIA Indoor National Championships where she was all All American last year, Dunn was the first collegiate racer across the line at Friday’s Cedarville University Invitational.

She improved her season best by 40-plus seconds to 15:08.11, currently the fifth fastest time in the NAIA.
