KENNEBUNKPORT — A 19-year-old man who fell into icy waters from a Harpswell-based fishing boat Wednesday morning off Cape Porpoise was resuscitated by his father before being taken to a local hospital.

The man fell off the Kylie Brooke at about 9:50 a.m. and was in the water for three to four minutes before he was pulled out, according to spokesman Connan Ingham of U.S. Coast Guard Sector Northern New England in South Portland.

Ingham could not immediately confirm the identity of either man.

According to Linda Webber of Webber’s Seafood in Harpswell, Richard “Dan” Pesce operates the Kylie Brooke out of Cundy’s Harbor with his son, Devon.

“The father of the boy resuscitated him and got him breathing,” Lee McCurdy, harbormaster for the town of Kennebunkport, told the Bangor Daily News by phone.

Ingham said the man was alert but hypothermic when the Kylie Brooke arrived at the Cape Porpoise town wharf, from which the injured man was moved to the Cape Porpoise ambulance.

He said the man was taken to Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford.

No further information was available about the injured man’s condition or what caused him to fall off the boat.
