FARMINGTON — Police said a Stratton man was charged after he sent inappropriate text messages to a juvenile and touched her.

Zachery Haines, 22, is facing charges of unlawful sexual contact and unlawful sexual touching, Sheriff Scott Nichols Sr. of the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department said.

Earlier this week, Detective Stephen Charles was contacted by a parent with information about their daughter, who is under the age of 16. The girl received text messages containing graphic sexual requests from Haines, he said.

“The investigation eventually revealed that not only was the victim receiving messages but had also been physically violated by Haines,” Nichols said in a release.

Haines was arrested Feb. 11 on a charge of probation violation and issued summonses for the two sex crimes, he said. He is being held at the Franklin County Detention Center.

The case remains under investigation.

Any other victims are encouraged to contact the Sheriff’s Department at 778-2680 and speak to Lt. David St. Laurent or Detective Stephen Charles, he said.

Nichols said a man from Kingfield, in an unrelated case, also has been charged with unlawful sexual touching.

Jeremy Brewer, 26, was charged after police received a referral from the Maine Department of Health and Human Services. A person under age 14 told staff members of the Children’s Advocacy Clinic about the abuse.

Brewer is expected to be arraigned on the charge on April 8, Nichols said.
