PORTLAND (AP) — More than 30 bishops and archbishops from across the country are scheduled to be in Maine as the new leader of the state’s 193,000 Roman Catholics is installed.

Cardinal Sean O’Malley, archbishop of Boston, is presiding over Friday’s installation of the Most Rev. Robert Deeley as bishop of the Diocese of Portland.

The Mass was being celebrated on Friday — Valentine’s Day — at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Portland.

Deeley, who becomes the Portland diocese’s 12th bishop, comes from Boston where he was auxiliary bishop. In Maine, he’ll oversee diocese operations including three hospitals, a dozen schools, 55 parishes and more than 100 priests.
