AUGUSTA —  UMA’s 19th annual Science Program for Kids will be held from 12:30 to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 18.

The program is for preschool- to middle school-aged children and their friends and family. It is sponsored by UMA’s biology program. All activities are free and open to the public.

Activities will take place in several classrooms throughout UMA’s Jewett hall from 12:30 to 2 p.m. and 3 to 4 p.m. There will be break from 2 to 3 p.m. for a presentation on Maine Sharks and Healthy Kids in Jewett Auditorium.

Activities include:

* Match the bones to the animal challenge.

* Use microscopes to observe living creatures, insects, crystals and more.

* Measure lung capacity, percentage of body fat and blood pressure.

* See a dissection; build an arm and a leg from real bones.

* Play doctor or nurse in the Health Clinic for teddy bears and baby dolls.

* Take fingerprints, analyze bones; are they male or female?

* Find out how much sugar is in that snack or drink.

* Form a team and take the Critter Quiz.

* Healthy eating games and MyPlate activities.

* Nature and science related arts and crafts.

* Learn a little polymer chemistry and make slime.

* Make DNA.

* Experiment with Dr. Physics, who can make your head spin and your hair stand on end.
