WATERVILLE — Ice fishers can win great prizes and help Meals on Wheels by attending the 16th annual Gene and Lucille Letourneau Ice Fishing Derby on Feb. 23 at Spectrum Generations Muskie Center.

Any legal fish caught on Feb. 23 in any legal water in Maine can be entered. The fish categories are salmon, brook trout, brown trout, togue, splake, pickerel, pike, and white perch, plus the additional categories of yellow perch and black crappie for children.

There will be first and second prizes for the biggest fish in each category for adults, and first-, second- and third-prize categories for the biggest fish in each category for children 15 and under.

The weigh-in will be inside Spectrum Generations warm and beautiful Muskie Center from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 23, with a live auction to immediately follow the weigh-in.

Food and beverages will be available for sale in the café, and children’s activities will be offered throughout the day.

Proceeds benefit the Meals on Wheels program in memory of avid sportsman and environmentalist Gene Letourneau and his wife, Lucille.

Gene was a longtime volunteer and advocate of Meals on Wheels, which Spectrum Generations has been delivering throughout Central Maine for more than 40 years. The need for these nutritious meals to homebound and disabled adults is increasing.
