BRUNSWICK — A Lewiston woman with a prior conviction of engaging in prostitution was charged again Friday for the same crime.

Vanessa R. Vermette, 27, was also charged with unlawful possession of valium, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana and violation of conditions of release, according to Brunswick Police Officer Patrick Mahar.

Officers went just before 3 p.m. Friday to the Days Inn on Bath Road after employees reported suspected criminal activity in one of the rooms.

“The manager was suspicious that there may have been prostitution and drug activity,” Mahar said.

Police found Vermette alone in the room and charged her at the scene with the drug violations. But during the course of the investigation, officers also charged her with engaging in prostitution.

Mahar said Vermette was previously convicted of engaging in prostitution. Details of that conviction were not immediately available.

She remained in Cumberland County Jail Monday morning on $400 bail. She is scheduled to appear in West Bath District Court on April 8.
