PARIS — Oxford County commissioners Tuesday approved the purchase of five new pickup trucks for the Oxford County Sheriff’s Office.

The 2014 Dodge Ram 1500 trucks will cost the county $108,638, after the Sheriff’s Office trades in four of its older vehicles.

Bessey Motors in South Paris was the winning bidder.

Ripley and Fletcher Ford in South Paris and Goodwin Motor Group in Oxford also submitted bids.

The replacement cost is significantly less than the $137,500 approved for vehicle purchases in the 2014 county budget.

At a county commission meeting in January, Oxford County Sheriff Wayne Gallant said his office preferred pickup trucks to police cruisers because the vehicles allow deputies to go into remote areas and perform tasks the cars cannot.
