MINOT — Town Administrator Arlan Saunders told selectmen at their meeting Tuesday that, for the first time in several years, the 4,000 cubic yards of sand the town put up last October likely won’t suffice.

Highway Supervisor Scott Parker said he hopes the 500 yards Washburn and Son has agreed to haul in will be enough to get the town through the winter.

“They will be hauling it in between storms this week,” Parker said.

Saunders also reported that town reports are available at the Town Office and the warrant for the annual town meeting is posted. The meeting will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday, March 1, at Minot Consolidated School gymnasium.

Town Clerk Heidi Schreiber said polls will be open from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 28, to elect one selectman and two School Committee members. Voters will also be asked to approve a $536,000 plan to renovate and expand the Central Fire Station.

In other business Tuesday, selectmen voted to participate in the Household Hazardous Waste program offered through the Androscoggin Valley Council of Governments. Selectmen said the town’s participation should cut down on illegal dumping of dangerous materials along back roads.

Homeowners with pesticides, cans of paint and paint thinner, and other hazardous waste can dispose of the equivalent of up to two five-gallon containers and should contact the Town Office for instructions in how to participate.

At a public hearing, selectmen approved a liquor license for the Maine Wedding Barn on Center Minot Hill Road at Shaw Hill Road.
