LEWISTON — Professor Mark Silber of the University of Southern Maine’s Lewiston-Auburn College will give a one-hour presentation Wednesday, Feb. 26, about choosing plants for the garden, and harvesting and preserving seeds.
Silber is a farmer, teacher, anthropologist, photographer and a former public official. He will share his concerns about a shift in seed availability from open pollinated to hybrid and genetically modified seeds.
Silber, who maintains that gardening and people raising crops are important to assure diversity of seed varieties, will share how he selects and saves seeds.
The brown-bag lunch presentation, “From Seed to Harvest, From Harvest to Seed,” is open to the public. It will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wednesday in Room 108 of the college, 51 Westminster St., Lewiston.
