STRONG — Selectmen on Tuesday night rescheduled the annual town meeting for March 22 and election of school board members to March 21, because legal public notice was not given to hold it March 1.
At their Feb. 11 meeting, selectmen agreed to wait for updated information for three school board terms. They also received an accountant’s report that showed they had more money in an account then they were originally told.
They voted to meet Feb. 14 to sign the warrant, according to board Chairwoman Joan Reed. She told those at Tuesday night’s board meeting that because the selectmen had not posted the Friday signing of the warrant as an official selectmen’s meeting, they had not provided proper public notice.
Reed said she consulted with the Maine Municipal Association’s legal counsel, Richard Flewellyn, to determine whether they could to hold the election and meeting March 1.
“It would put us in jeopardy, and we would be responsible,” she said.
The March 22 town meeting will begin at 9:30 a. m. Voting will be from 1 to 6 p.m. March 21 at the Forster Memorial Building.
