BANGOR — The Penobscot County grand jury indicted a local woman on Wednesday after she allegedly stole $150,000 set aside to help her injured daughter, according to deputy district attorney Michael Roberts.

Jill Farnham, 48, of Bangor was indicted on a charge of theft by unauthorized taking.

“The victim in that case is her daughter,” Roberts said Wednesday after the grand jury indictment list was released. “She was involved in a motor vehicle accident five years ago.”

Two civil lawsuits were filed after the accident, and the daughter was awarded $150,000, which was placed into a trust on her behalf.

“Unfortunately, Ms. Farnham cleaned the money out,” Roberts said.

The deputy district attorney did not say how the daughter was injured in the car crash, but he did say she is now in her 20s.

Farnham is free on bail and is scheduled to be in court March 6 to enter a plea in the case, Roberts said.
