STONEHAM — Voters will elect town officers and approve a $598,546 budget, which includes projected school and county assessments, at the annual town meeting Saturday.
The meeting gets underway at 10 a.m. at the Stoneham Fire Station. There are 52 articles on the warrant.
Overall, municipal expenses are going up more than $10,000 this year, largely due to purchasing another 600 cubic yards of salt and sand mixture because the town ran out this winter, Treasurer Mary Fox said.
The proposed budget calls for using about $109,800 from the general fund and raise $137,100 from property taxes to finance town operations. The addition to the general fund at the end of the fiscal year is expected to be $112,700, she said.
There are predicted increases SAD 72 and Oxford County assessments. Payments to SAD 72 are projected to go up as much as $39,200, to $415,000, while the county tax may go up $2,450, to $60,000, according to the warrant.
Overall, the town’s tax rate could to go up by as much as 70 cents, to $7.50 per $1,000 of assessed property value, Fox said.
Voters will elect a selectman for a three-year term. Selectman Neal Littlefield is running for re-election.
Residents will also elect 11 other officers and members of boards and committees. Stoneham nominates and elects officials at the town meeting.
