RUMFORD — The Mahoosuc Land Trust will host its annual winter Gourmet Hike at 9 a.m. March 8 at the Whitecap trail head in Rumford, member Jolan Ippolito said in a press release.

The Gourmet Hike follows two similar hikes on Crow Mountain in Shelburne, N.H., and Flint Farm in Albany.

“We’re asking people to bring water, a gourmet dish to share, and enthusiasm for enjoying this treasure of a mountain,” Ippolito said in the press release.

The hike up Whitecap will be “strenuous,” he said. Those participating should bring snowshoes, poles “and a bit of stamina.”

To reach the Whitecap trail head, take Route 5 north from Route 2 for 3 miles, turn right to cross the first bridge, and left onto East Andover Road. The trail head is 200 yards on the right.

Those participating are asked to call the Mahoosuc Land Trust at 207-824-3806, or email Ippolito at jolan@mahoosuc.org.

Ippolito said last-minute hikers will be welcome.
