AUBURN — The ninth-graders of Edward Little High School invited local Maine authors to be a part of the first “ELHS Horror Short Story Contest” on Jan. 15 in the school gym.
The event is a celebration of the horror genre and the art of the short story and a way to develop students as writers and creators of fiction.
Organizers said they reached out to local accomplished authors from Maine, because providing students with a real-world audience would make the writing experience meaningful and motivate students to do their best work.
Winners were Cameron Robinson for “Carnival,” Tabitha Douglas for “Reflections of Murder,” Marisa Carter for “Demonic,” Hannah Stauffer for “Deadly Ann” and Hannah Footer for “The Fire Feeds on Your Fear.”
Maine authors John Clark, Lewis Robinson, Kate Flora, Patrick Quinlan, Ellen Cooney, Jim Nichols and T.M. Gray read and judged the top 10 student pieces.
Area bookstores and some publishers donated hundreds of dollars in prizes for the winning writers.
