Support groups start for children

PORTLAND —  Separation and divorce support groups for children and adolescents will be held starting March 4 at the Kids First Center.

Group I, for first- through third-graders, will meet from 4:15 to 5:45 p.m. Tuesdays, March 4 to April 8. Group II, fourth- to sixth-graders, will meet from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Wednesdays, March 5 to April 9. Group III, seventh- to ninth-graders, will meet from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays, March 5 to April 9.

The six-week after-school groups (which are facilitated by mental health professionals) give kids an opportunity to share experiences with their peers in a safe, neutral environment.

IT education to be discussed

SOUTH PORTLAND — The MTUG monthly education meeting will discuss “The State of IT Higher Education” from 8:30 a.m. to noon Wednesday, March 5, at South Portland City Hall, 25 Cottage Road.

Due to a $13 million federal grant, many of Maine’s colleges will have a chance to explore new IT education program development. How will these new programs match with marketplace labor needs? What can employers do to impact the shape of IT education?

Join the Maine Technology Users Group as members discuss the scope of IT education programming across the state and its impact on students, workforce, economic development and employers.

Leprechaun 5K on schedule

ROCKLAND — The Lucky Leprechaun 5K will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 15,  at Trackside Station, 4 Union St.

GO! Malawi helps educate orphaned children in order to give them a “hand up” and a chance at a productive life. The nonprofit is continuing to raise funds for education programs, which support orphans and other vulnerable children in rural Malawi.

The race is the third in the series and will have prizes, giveaways and a unique prize for the best dressed in green. Walkers, runners and well-behaved dogs are welcome to join for registration from 8:30 to 10 a.m. Participants may also preregister at RunSignUp.com or Active.com or via www.go-malawi.org.

Group facilitator training set

SOUTH PORTLAND — Only offered once-a-year, a group facilitator training six-session session will begin Monday, March 24, at Cancer Community Center, 778 Main St.
