PERU — A western Maine man was arrested early Sunday morning after the peaceful end to an hours-long standoff with the Maine State Police.
Corey Taylor, 40, of Peru had threatened a relative by text message and email Saturday night, according to Maine Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland. The Maine State Police tactical team and negotiators were called to his Route 108 residence at about midnight, and the standoff lasted until 4:30 a.m. with Taylor’s arrest on two related charges.
“No one else was in the house, including the relative he threatened,” McCausland said. “The assumption was he had weapons.”
He said he did not know for sure whether Taylor had weapons during the standoff. Police charged him with domestic violence terrorizing and domestic violence threatening. He was taken to the Oxford County Jail to be booked.
Police closed Route 108, the main road into Peru, for the duration of the standoff, McCausland said, adding that Taylor was believed to have been intoxicated when he sent the threatening messages to his family member.
