AUGUSTA — The average retail cost of a gallon of gas in Maine is up another 3 cents.

Price-monitoring website GasBuddy.com reports Monday that the price at the pump has risen to an average of $3.58 per gallon in the past week, 14 cents above the national average.

Even though prices in Maine are now almost 12 cents higher than they were a month ago, they remain almost 24 cents lower than at this time last year.

The average is based on a survey of more than 1,200 Maine gas stations.

A company analyst says the price hike is not unexpected, and prices are likely to go even higher because refineries are in prime maintenance season before the switch over to making cleaner burning summer gasoline.
