FARMINGTON — The Franklin County Animal Shelter is waiving or dropping adoption fees for three days this week.

Empty the Shelter will be held from noon to 5 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday, March 6-8.

Adoption fees for cats and kittens will be waived and dog adoption fees will be half price, Heidi Jordan, executive director, said. There are 57 cats and eight dogs at the shelter.

Fees for cat and kitten adoptions normally are $75. Dog adoption prices range from $75 to $100 during Empty the Shelter.

While shelter employees want to see these animals go to good homes, they also realize the need to make space for kitten season, she said.

“The last few years, shelters have noticed a trend of kitten season starting earlier with intakes rising in March instead of April,” Jordan said.

Cats and dogs at the shelter are spayed or neutered, tested for diseases, rabies vaccinated and treated for fleas and worms before being adopted.
