RANGELEY — The Board of Selectmen have voted to accept the bid of A.E. Hodsdon of Waterville to engineer the road reconstruction and water-line replacement project for High and School streets.

The vote Tuesday reflected discussion with the Water Board at a pre-meeting workshop at which selectmen examined the second round of bids for the project, involving five firms.

Hodsdon’s bid was $57,500, which includes the services of a full-time, on-site inspector. Funding for the construction will depend on the state budget, currently before the state Legislature. The board hopes to begin the project early this coming summer

* Money collected to erect a memorial to the snowmobilers who lost their lives on Rangeley Lake in December 2012 has apparently gone missing. The town has had no success in contacting the private individuals who are administering the fund. Any donors who wrote checks are urged to contact the Town Office with information on whether their checks have cleared.

* The board approved the appointments of Dennis Marquis and Carrol Florkiewicz to the Zoning Board of Appeals. Florkiewicz’s term will go to June 30, 2016; Marquis’ will end June 30, 2017.

* Board Chairman Dave Burgess announced the resignation of Ed Smith from the Budget Committee. Search for a replacement will begin immediately.

* Representatives of the Seasonal Friends of Rangeley Scholarship Fund requested release of the organization’s funds, which are being administered by the town. Three years ago, following questions about tax deductions, the group created a 501(c)(3) charitable exemption and requested release of all funds from the town’s account and removal of all fiscal responsibilities from the town. The transfer will guarantee that all donations are tax-deductible.

Release of the funds will require action at the town meeting, and the board will prepare a warrant article to request the action. The scholarship fund was founded in 1996, and the amount of the scholarship has grown from $1,000 to $3,500. The scholarship rewards outstanding community service. Recipients are chosen for the Seasonal Friends of Rangeley by the school administration.

* The conference call with the University of New England to discuss the relocation of a pharmacy in Rangeley is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. before the board’s next meeting on Tuesday, March 18.
