1932 – 2014

AUBURN — Patricia Doris (Barrows) Brann, 81, the daughter of Russell Fenton Barrows and L. Thelma Dore, was born on Aug. 6, 1932, in Topsham. She died on Thursday, March 6, at the Hospice House in Auburn.

In her youth, Patricia was president of the World Wide Guild, sang in the choir at the United Baptist Church of Topsham, was the lead in numerous school plays and was MOHIBA queen of Morse High School. She graduated from Morse High School in Bath in 1950.

Patricia attended Central Maine General Hospital’s School of Nursing as well as the Auburn Maine School of Commerce. She married Dr. J.E. Martin of Mexico in 1953, and had seven children with him.

Patricia came to live in Lewiston in 1968, and worked for White Rock Distilleries as an accountant and for the city of Auburn as clerk, then appraiser and then assessor. She taught assessing courses at Central Maine Vocational Technical Institute, and held offices in both the Maine Association of Assessing Officers and the International Association of Assessing Officers. She also served as director of the Board of Christian Education at the United Baptist Church in Lewiston. Patricia subsequently worked for the school superintendent’s office in the town of Winthrop and retired in 1966.

In the 1970s, Patricia was responsible for forming a youth square dance group at the United Baptist Church in Lewiston. This club was instrumental in helping those children remain “drug free.”

Patricia married Donald E. Brann of Windham in 1980. They taught and cued round dancing for 16 years in Westbook, Scarborough, Waterville and Brunswick, as well as many weekends in the Northeast and Canada. Together they choreographed and demonstrated many dance routines in classes and conventions in the northern and central U.S. and Canada.

Patricia and Don joined the Eastern Star Pine Cone Chapter 11 in Lisbon Falls. She enjoyed doing crafts, knitting, sewing clothes and dolls and making items for her grandchildren. She was an avid reader, enjoying all types of books.

Patricia is survived by her loving husband of 34 years, Donald E. Brann Jr.; and six children: Joe E. Martin Jr. of Rumford and his children, E.J., Zachary, Sarah and Laura; Dr. Priscilla Martin and husband, Dr. Donald Bordley, of Rochester, N.Y., and their children, Erin, Christopher and Kate Bordley; Dr. Kathleen Martin and husband, Rick Beaudet, of Hartford, and their children, Dominique, Ricky and Matt Beaudet; Bernard Martin and wife, Lauren, and their children, Sydney, Colby, Peter and Jersey Martin; Dr. Michael Martin and wife, Amanda, and their children, David and Meredith Martin; and Patrick Martin and wife, Margaret, and their children, Kelsey and Haley Martin. She is also survived by three stepchildren: Shannon Kashinsky and her children, Amber, Joshua, Cameron and Zachary; Dawna Veillieux and her children, Schyler and Carley; and Lorri Clow and husband, Tom, and their children, Trevor and Tristin. She is also survived by two great-grandchildren, Jada and Corbin Richard; and her beloved Husky, Juno. Patricia really loved and enjoyed her grandchildren when she had the opportunity to visit with them.
