1932 – 2014

AUBURN — Patricia Doris (Barrows) Brann, 81, the daughter of Russell Fenton Barrows and L. Thelma Dore, was born on Aug. 6, 1932, in Topsham. She died on Thursday, March 6, at the Hospice House in Auburn.

In her youth, Patricia was president of the World Wide Guild, sang in the choir at the United Baptist Church of Topsham, was the lead in numerous school plays and was MOHIBA queen of Morse High School. She graduated from Morse High School in Bath in 1950.

Patricia attended Central Maine General Hospital’s School of Nursing as well as the Auburn Maine School of Commerce. She married Dr. J.E. Martin of Mexico in 1953, and had seven children with him.

Patricia came to live in Lewiston in 1968, and worked for White Rock Distilleries as an accountant and for the city of Auburn as clerk, then appraiser and then assessor. She taught assessing courses at Central Maine Vocational Technical Institute, and held offices in both the Maine Association of Assessing Officers and the International Association of Assessing Officers. She also served as director of the Board of Christian Education at the United Baptist Church in Lewiston. Patricia subsequently worked for the school superintendent’s office in the town of Winthrop and retired in 1966.

In the 1970s, Patricia was responsible for forming a youth square dance group at the United Baptist Church in Lewiston. This club was instrumental in helping those children remain “drug free.”
