RUMFORD — A Peru resident, with the help of the Rumford Performing Arts Committee, will be hosting a benefit concert at 7 p.m. Saturday, March 29, at the Rumford Falls Auditorium to support Camp Sunshine in Casco.

Andy St. Pierre said that he came up with the idea after participating in different events with NAPA Auto Parts to raise money for Camp Sunshine, including an egg ride in Greenville that raised more than $36,000.

“I’ve been wanting to put on a concert for Camp Sunshine for years,” St. Pierre said. “The Rumford Performing Arts Committee have been a great help in helping us. They’re always nice to work with. It’s quite nice to have them in our camp.”

Those interested can purchase tickets at Kreckel Law Offices on Congress Street in Rumford for $8 each or $10 at the door on the night of the concert, St. Pierre said. Children’s tickets are $5 or $7 at the door.

St. Pierre said he will be performing folk and country music from the 1970s and ’80s with musician Peter Koch.

Jim Rinaldo, chairman of the RPAC, said that the committee has helped St. Pierre organize a benefit “around a year and a half or two years ago” and that their duties in helping are to “secure a venue, help line up performers for the concert, promotion and selling tickets at the door.”

“We helped Andy with a benefit he did for St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, and we’re pleased to help him out with this concert,” Rinaldo said. “At the last benefit concert he did, we raised around $700 for St. Jude’s. I think with this benefit he’s hoping to raise somewhere in the $2,000 range.”

According to its website, Camp Sunshine, located near Sebago Lake in Casco, is a camp that “provides respite, support, joy and hope to children with life-threatening illnesses and their immediate families through various stages of a child’s illness.”
