STARKS — United in Christ Presbyterian Church Crafter’s Cottage is offering a series of classes on paper mache puppet making. The six-week class will be offered from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesdays, March 19 through April 23, at the Crafter’s Cottage in Memorial Hall, 11 Locke Hill Road.

An intensive in-depth learning experience, this class covers the basics of making paper mache hand puppets, giant outdoor puppet making, and includes painting, costuming, puppet stages and working with scripts and original storylines. Class fees are $200 per person for the full course. Sliding fee scale available.

The course is taught by Harry and Cindy Brown and Celina Ellis. Cindy has been involved with puppets, large and small for adults and children since 1986. She studied puppetry in-depth during an internship with Bread & Puppet theater.

Harry studied fine art at the Hartford Art School and works in pen and ink, pencil and watercolor and oils. He will teach color mixing and working with flesh tones.

Ellis is a costumer for Sparrow’s Nest Theater and a well-known local textile artist. She has a theater arts degree from the University of Toledo and will lead the class on clothing and costuming for puppets.
