STRONG — Selectmen on Tuesday signed a revised warrant to present to voters  March 22.

The original warrant for the annual town meeting, scheduled Feb. 28 and March 1, was deemed invalid because of an inadvertent procedural error. The meeting was rescheduled for March 21 and 22.

Board Vice Chairman Jim Burrill reported that Sandy River Recycling Association’s contract with the town will end in June. The town will contract with Archie’s Inc. of Mexico to collect recyclables from the Town Office and town garage.

The municipal offices have used an off-site container for paper and other recyclable materials. The container is not available to residents. Burrill said the annual cost of $1,400 is acceptable.

It’s $90 less than what the association projected it would have charged, he said, “but it is more than what we paid last year. The only thing that would change is that it would be Archie’s.”

Strong residents also contract independently with Archie’s Inc. and Wattle’s Sani-Waste. They also may choose to pay a per-bag fee at the Farmington transfer station. Recyclables will be accepted at no cost at the Farmington location, Burrill said.

Selectmen also accepted the renewal of Wattle’s Sani-Waste application to continue his residential waste pickup service in town. All waste haulers must provide proof of insurance.

Selectmen opened and accepted the higher of two bids on a former plow and sanding truck that will not pass inspection and needs repairs. Peter Lily’s bid for $2,505 was the highest. Selectman Mike Pond abstained from voting, because he employs Lily occasionally, he said.

In other news, Betsey DuBois presented selectmen with a list of registered Republicans and Democrats who will serve as ballots counters at elections. Each year, the town clerk must confirm a list of ballot counters from the two political parties.
