Lecture canceled, one postponed

LEWISTON — Two lectures scheduled for March 12 will not take place because of a predicted snowstorm.

The 4:15 p.m. lecture titled “Creation, Evolution and the Problem of Suffering” by philosophy and religious studies professor Thomas Tracy will be rescheduled to a date to be announced. For more information, call 207-786-6066.

St. Patrick’s Day Dinner on March 15

AUBURN — New Auburn Social Club will hold a St. Patrick’s Day Dinner at 4 p.m. Saturday, March 15.

The cost is $7; menu includes corned beef, cabbage, potato, carrots and desserts.

D.J. Scotty Dawg will play from 8 p.m. to midnight.

The Hats Off Salute to Dinny Sullivan will be taking place all over Auburn all day long.

Auction to benefit Hospice House 5K

AUBURN — Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice announces the Dream Team’s Auction to benefit the Hospice House 5K and Remembrance Walk.

Their signature event, The Dream Team Live Auction and Dance, is scheduled for 6 p.m. to midnight Saturday, March 15, at Martindale Country Club with music sponsored by the Doctor Fatfingers Band.

Tickets can be purchased at the door, by contacting the Hospice House at 207-777-7740 or emailing Missy at mmm32207@gmail.com. Tickets are $7 per person or $10 for a couple.

The Dream Team was established in 2013 as a way for Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice’s Hospice House employees, their families and friends to raise funds to support the Hospice House 5K & Remembrance Walk scheduled for Sunday, May 18, at CMCC and Sunday, May 4, in Farmington.

The Dream Team raised more than $4,900 in 2013 and has set a goal of $6,000 for 2014.

Programs: vegan cooking, depression

LEWISTON — A free vegan cooking class with Cheryl Farley, nutritionist, will be held at 6 p.m. Monday, March 17, at The Ark, 791 Lisbon St. No registration required.

Community Center monthly meeting

AUBURN — The Lake Auburn Community Center will hold its regular monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 18, in the Community Room at Androscoggin Bank, 683 Minot Ave. The public is welcomed.

The LACC property is a public access point near Lake Auburn at 115 North Auburn Road with parking, restroom and picnic area. It serves access to hundreds of acres of passive recreational trail use from sunrise to sunset daily, including the Whitman Spring Road Trail owned by the Lake Auburn Watershed Protection Commission.

The winter trails have been fantastic for recreation this year and members are working out the logistics of a $14,000 project canopy grant award, including well and pump upgrades, REC (Recreation, Environment, Community) educational signage, tree nursery and forestry plan preparation and most importantly legal and survey work for public easements making this a long-term access property.

Disabled veterans meet March 18

LEWISTON — Disabled American Veterans Chapter 11 will hold its monthly meeting at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 18, at Memorial Armory, 65 Central Ave.

The meetings are held on the third Tuesday of each month, except June, July and August.

Members are invited to bring a fellow vet or family member guest.

Ladies of St. Anne membership meeting

LEWISTON — The Ladies of St. Anne Sodality of the Prince of Peace Parish, Holy Family, will have their general membership meeting at 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 19, at the parish hall. Doors will open at 5:30.

After a short business meeting, bingo will be played. Refreshments will be served. Members are encouraged to attend and bring a friend.

CMMC program on migraines

LEWISTON — “Oh, My Aching Head … What Is a Migraine Headache?” is the subject of a free Central Maine Medical Center Accenting Your Health presentation set for 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 20, in the Chairmen’s Rooms, on the lower level of the 12 High Street Medical Office Building.

Katarina Latkovich, M.D., of Central Maine Internal Medicine, will discuss migraine headaches. Her presentation will cover what triggers the sometimes severe headaches, what might prevent them and what can be done to make them subside.

Mechanics Savings Bank scholarships

AUBURN — Mechanics Savings Bank will continue its long-standing commitment to provide $17,000 in scholarships to high school graduates bound for college or technical school in the fall. The Banking on the Future Scholarship Program will award $1,000 to 17 high school graduates at 11 area high schools.

Scholarships are available to high school seniors at the following schools: Edward Little, Lewiston, Saint Dominic, Leavitt, Lisbon, Oak Hill, Poland, Gray/New Gloucester, Brunswick and Windham. Students should complete an application and submit it to their high school guidance department by April 30. Applications are available at each school’s guidance office, in any Mechanics Savings Bank branch, or at www.mechanicssavings.com.

Lewiston Bridge Club winners

LEWISTON — The Lewiston Bridge Club winners on March 1, were as follows: first, Mary Ann Trafton and Luke Merry; second, Sue Kaluzynski and Les Buzzell.

Winners on March 11 were: first, Jan and Vern Arey; second, Marta Clements and Hazel Glazier; third, Kathy Burden and Mary Ann Trafton.
