Home brewing 2-day workshop

AUBURN — In collaboration with the Baxter Brewing Company, the Corporate and Community Services Department at Central Maine Community College is offering a Home Brewer’s Boot Camp. Whether you’re brand new to home brewing, or an experienced hobbyist, this two-day workshop is a perfect opportunity to get some insightful guidance into the craft. The class will meet Friday and Saturday, April 4-5.

The Friday class will meet at CMCC from 1 to 4 p.m. Baxter Brewing Company head brewer Ryan O’Doherty will discuss the theories, methods, tools and ingredients necessary for a successful and enjoyable home-brewing experience. A brief history of the beer industry and the beverage itself will also be covered.

On Saturday the class will meet at Baxter Brewing from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. There will be an explanation and demonstration of home brewing processes, a tour of the brewery and a discussion of the differences with large scale operations. A “class batch” will be created during this session and participants will be invited back to the taproom several weeks later for a tasting.

The cost of $89 covers all materials and a copy of John Palmer’s “How To Brew: Everything You Need To Know To Brew Beer Right The First Time.” For more information or to register, call 207-755-5280, email training@cmcc.edu or visit www.cmcc.edu/ccs.
