TOPSHAM — The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing will present “Living Well With and Beyond Cancer,” a six-part wellness program, beginning Thursday, March 20, in Topsham.

The series is facilitated by a professional counselor and designed to help people better understand and cope with cancer’s impact on mind, body and spirit. Participants may sign up for individual sessions or for the entire series.

The series will cover the following topics:

March 20: “The New Normal: Creating the Life that You Want Now.”

March 27: “Self-care and Effective Communication.”

April 3: “Supporting Youth: How To Help Children and Teens Adjust To Your Illness.” Dempsey Center Youth and Family Service Coordinator Tookie Bright, a licensed clinical social worker, accompanied by adolescent guest speakers, will lead the session.

April 10: “Cancer and the Spirit,” a non-denominational discussion about cancer’s impact on spirituality, presented by Dempsey Center Psychosocial Services Coordinator Kerry Irish, a licensed clinical social worker and certified oncology social worker.

April 17: “Body Image: Coping with Changes Inside and Out.”

April 24: “Intimacy and Sexuality: How has Cancer Affected this Part of Your Life?”

All sessions are being offered at no change and will be presented between 6 and 7:30 p.m. at the Greater Brunswick Physical Therapy office, 11 Bowdoin Island Mill, Suite 200.

All six sessions are appropriate for cancer patients, survivors and loved ones and are facilitated by licensed clinical social worker and oncology counselor Theresa Beaudette.
