DEAR SUN SPOTS: What is the highest single payout from a slot machine at Hollywood Slots and at Oxford Casino? — Gary, Auburn

ANSWER: Patrick from the Maine Gambling Control Board was able to find that information for Sun Spots. The highest slot pot at Hollywood Slots to date was $64, 810. At Oxford Casino it was an even $40,000.

HELLO, SUN SPOTS: The recent fires in Lewiston and the letter about the cat displaced by them have triggered something in my memory that there used to be stickers or decals that pet owners could place on their doors or windows to let rescue personnel know that there is a pet in the building.

Do you know if those decals are still available anywhere and if the rescue people would still consider that valuable information to have? Thank you. — No Name via email

ANSWER: You can still get those window stickers. Many animal charities send them if you make a donation (Sun Spots has gotten them from the Humane Society and similar charities). You can also buy them at pet stores. Petco has them on its website for $3.19.

As for whether they are helpful for firefighters, for an answer to that question, Sun Spots emailed Lewiston fire Chief Paul LeClair, who wrote:

“I made a few inquiries and generally have found that fire departments consider the stickers helpful. At a minimum they provide emergency responders with the information a pet may be in the home or apartment.

“I also want to share our experience, which has demonstrated that pets (cats and dogs) tend to move around during an emergency. Clearly they will be frightened and will be trying to escape the danger. Often the pets will seek refuge in areas of the home where they may feel safe: under beds, in closets or in the basement.

“Firefighters will always complete a primary and secondary search of the entire home during an emergency and will rescue the pets when located.”

Mix together all ingredients, season with salt and pepper, and bake in a greased meatloaf pan at 350 degrees for one-and-a-half hours. — E.E., Lewiston

ANSWER: This recipe is very different from any Sun Spots has seen for meatloaf. She will have to try it.

So far no one has responded with a recipe for stuffed peppers or cabbage. Readers?
