1926 – 2014

FARMINGTON — John F. Pond Jr., 88, of Farmington Falls, died Sunday afternoon, March 23, at Orchard Park Rehabilitation Center in Farmington.

He was born in Fort Fairfield on Jan. 30, 1926, a son of John F. and Pearl (Gendreau) Pond Sr. John was a hardworking man who started working in the woods at a young age. He then worked and managed Sproul’s Lumber in Chesterville, Jay Building Supply, Starbird Home Center and later, Hammond Lumber Co. in Farmington.

On July 14, 1947, he married Virginia Webber in Fort Fairfield; she died Feb. 6, 2009. John enjoyed spending time with his family, going to his camp at Kimball Pond, woodworking, gardening and raising Kennebec potatoes. He loved traveling to the Canadian Maritimes, which were the roots of his ancestry.

He is survived by his daughter, Linda Collins and her husband, Mike, of Farmington Falls; two granddaughters, Jennifer Rackliff and her husband, Peter, and their four children, Megan, Joseph, Samuel and Nicholas, all of Farmington Falls, and Carielle Collins of East Boston; and his siblings, Madeline Kilponen of New Hampshire, Virginia Kyes of Industry, Phil Gendreau of Casco, Bob Pond of Canton, Emma Jane Reynolds of Gilmanton, N.H., Burpee Pond of Naples, Richard Pond of Naples and Connie Deering of Gorham.

He was predeceased by his siblings, Jimmy, Gerald, Maurice, Geraldine and Billy; and his beloved dog, Dusty.
