AUBURN — Robert E. Leclair, 77, of Auburn, passed away at his home on Wednesday, March 19, with his wife, daughter and her family by his side.
He was born in Lewiston on May 15, 1936, a son of the late Lucien and Ida (Soucy) Leclair. He was educated at St. Peter’s School and graduated from St. Dom’s in 1954. He also attended Central Maine Vocational Technical Institute. On June 3, 1961, he married Lucille Pomerleau and they celebrated 52 years of marriage in 2013.
Bob was employed at the Bates Mill for 42 years as a mill worker and supervisor, and also spent several years in the office as well. Prior to his retirement, he worked for a time at L.L. Bean as a seasonal worker. He and his wife took over St. Peter’s bingo and ran it for 28 years. He enjoyed playing bingo and he was also an avid bowler, who ran some of the local leagues for a number of years. He loved to do puzzles, especially the 3D’s, and was very good at it.
Bob was a member of the Lewiston Senior Citizens, where he enjoyed playing cribbage and pinochle until April 2013. He was a member of Holy Trinity Church in Lisbon, where he was also a Third Degree member in the Knights of Columbus and was a big fan of the Boston Bruins, Red Sox and New England Patriots.
Bob was a loving, devoted and hardworking husband, father and grandfather and will be dearly missed.
He leaves his wife, Lucille Leclair, of Auburn; two daughters, Rachel Bennett of Florida and Carol Morin and her husband, Mark, of Otisfield; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Irene Smith and husband, Ronald, of Washington; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his half-sister, Armande Lajoie and her husband, Lionel; and two infant daughters who died a few hours after birth.
