WINTHROP —  Winthrop High School has announced that senior Jessica Ames has been selected by faculty members to receive the 2014 Principal’s Award.

She is the daughter of Melinda Edwards of Winthrop and Daniel Ames of West Gardiner.

During her four years at Winthrop High School, Ames has maintained an excellent scholastic record, while also participating in many co-curricular activities. Staff said she can be counted on in the classroom, on the playing field and as a student leader.

Ames has been a scholar-athlete all four years. She is a member of the field hockey team (9-12) named senior captain (12). She was selected to the Field Hockey Association All-State Team and will play in the All-Star Game this summer.

Ames has carried her love of field hockey into the summer by playing in the Indoor Field Hockey League (9-12). She is a member of the Math Team, Latin Club and Student Council. She is also a member of the National Honor Society and served as secretary. She was nominated a Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizen.

Out of school Ames was in the Red Cross Leadership Program and coaches girls in field hockey through the YMCA program.

She plans to attend the University of New Hampshire, majoring in athletic training

On Saturday, April 5, Ames and Principal Keith Morin will attend an MPA Honors Luncheon in Bangor.
