WOODSTOCK — Residents at Monday’s annual town meeting voted to raise $45,000 to rebuild 600 feet of Rumford Avenue.

A total of $555,000 was approved for road maintenance accounts, of which $515,000 will be raised from taxes and $40,000 will come from the Local Road Assistance fund. Besides the road-rebuilding money, voters approved a $5,000 increase in the winter roads budget and a $7,000 increase in the diesel and unleaded fuel budget over this year’s amount.

Also approved was $60,000 for operating expenses and salaries for the Fire Department and $21,100 for the Miscellaneous Account and for several community organizations. Nearly half of the $21,100 will go toward an account set up for the town’s 200th anniversary celebration, which Maxfield said is tentatively scheduled for February 2015.

Town Manager Vern Maxfield said more than 60 residents attended the meeting at the Woodstock Elementary School and voted on the 40 articles in just under two hours.

“Normally, we get somewhere between 80 and 100 people, but I guess this was just a lighter agenda than previous years,” he said.

Prior to the town meeting, Maxfield presented a plaque to former fire Chief Geff Inman, who recently retired.

His successor is Lt. Kyle Hopps, Maxfield said.
