1936 – 2014

LEWISTON — Billy (William) E. Welch, 78, of Fayette passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 26, at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston with family by his side.

He was born in Jay on Feb. 16, 1936, son of Thomas and Jeannette (Berube) Welch. He graduated from Livermore Falls High School in 1954 and went on to serve in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1959.

On June 26, 1959, he married Theresa Ann Ouellette. They made their home in Fayette.

Billy worked at the Otis Mill in Jay for 41 years, retiring in 1999.

He enjoyed gardening , poetry, cutting and stacking firewood for his home. He was a sports fan enjoying all sports. He was a strong supporter of his family.

He is survived by his children, Timothy Welch and his wife Catherine, Wendy Welch, Thomas Welch and his wife Angela, and Theodore Welch; a brother, Robert Welch and his wife Laura; a sister Norma Richards; five grandchildren, Emily LeBlanc and her husband Kevin, Jason Welch and his wife, Amy, Adam Welch and his wife, Israelle, Katie Welch and her fiancé, Matt Foss, and Jennifer Silverman; 12 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by his parents; his wife, Theresa “Ann”; and sister, Rita Meeks.
