Workmen on Friday set the staging they will use to repair the State House dome in Augusta and refurbish the roof with new copper. The $1.3 million job will restore the dome and the “Lady of Wisdom” statue that presides over it. The roof will be as shiny as a “new penny,” according to state officials in charge of the restoration. The copper color will last for up to 30 years, until it oxidizes and turns green.
