Two area residents have graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga.

Army National Guard Pfc. Kyle J. Nowinski is the son of Jamie and Chris Nowinski of Naples.

He is a 2010 graduate of Lake Region High School, Naples. He earned an associate degree in 2012 from Central Maine Community College, Auburn.

Army Pvt. Justin S. Haas is the son of Nickie Haas of Colebrook, N.H., and Scott Haas of Campton, N.H. He is a 2012 graduate of Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School, South Paris.

During the nine weeks of training, the soldiers received training in drill and ceremonies, weapons, map reading, tactics, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid and Army history, core values and traditions.

Additional training included development of basic combat skills and battlefield operations and tactics, and experiencing use of various weapons and weapons defenses available to the infantry crewman.
