Mrs. Louise Kiszonak of Lisbon Falls was injured Monday evening in a peculiar way. She had built a fire in the bed room stove and took the cover off the stove to put in another stick of wood when something exploded and Mrs. Kiszonak was struck over the eye with something and several small holes were burned in her clothing. Her little boy, two years old, was also struck in the head with something which came from the stove. They have been unable to explain the cause of the explosion and unable to find anything in the room which came out of the stove and hit both Mrs. Kiszonak and the boy.

EDITORIAL – The position of Auburn Mayor Harry W. Woodard Jr. and a majority of the City Council on the idea of a merger between Auburn and Lewiston definitely is negative. This is not surprising. No merger of the two cities will occur over night. Of course, finally, there is the decades-old local pride standing in the way of a merger. This is a lot of foolishness, but it may take another generation or so for people to recognize the fact the east and west sides of the Androscoggin River do not give citizens on one shore special virtues. These communities still show traces of provincialism with respect to permitting the geographical line of the Androscoggin to divide them. Let it not be forgotten that what helps one of these cities likewise helps the other, and that what hurts one hurts the other.
