DEAR SUN SPOTS: The Lisbon Friends of the Library is looking ahead to the holidays and wondering if anyone has scrapbooking supplies they are no longer using, especially a die-cut machine.

The Friends plan to have several community events to gather and make holiday crafts, which would then be sold to support library programming. Rubber stamps, cutting machine, punches — any supplies will be put to good use.

Donors can call the library at 353-6564 or email lisbonlibraryfriends@gmail.com. Donations can also be dropped off at the Lisbon Library at 28 Main St., Lisbon Falls. Thank you. — Sally Lunt, lisbonlibraryfriends@gmail.com

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I have records (45s) of various artists Contact me if interested. — Gregg Perry, lvis219@megalink.net, 207-224-7965

ANSWER: Sun Spots doesn’t know of too many people who still listen to 45s, but there are a handful of collectors. They do tend to be selective, but it won’t hurt to check with them.

We offer all of the PERS equipment, tele-health, medication management, etc. We have our own in-house care center, so we are answering all of the alarms and calls in-house, as opposed to using a third party. Our website is extremely informative and can help anyone in need: www.CSTLTL.com. Or phone 888-55-SIGNAL

MORE ON RUSSIA TODAY: For Steve Swan who asked about Time Warner dropping the Russia Today channel (Feb. 25, 28), Sun Spots was catching up on her listening of On the Media podcasts and heard what might be a possible explanation for the change: The station’s pro-Russian, anti-U.S./Europe stance might have offended viewers.

The following blurb introduces the March 7 podcast (www.onthemedia.org/story/on-the-media-2014-03-07/):

“Newsweek says ‘when it comes to Ukraine, RT is like going to a Cold War theme park, only without the breadlines.’ National Journal calls RT’s characterization of the crisis in Crimea an adventure filled with ‘tea, sandwiches and selfies.'”

On the show host Bob Garfield talks with Julia Ioffe, senior editor at The New Republic, about how RT’s coverage perfectly balances Putin-promoting and West-demoting.

He also interviews one of RT’s anchors, who spoke out against Russia’s actions in Ukraine. (Another anchor quit on-air after the “invasion.”) The remaining anchorwoman is dismissive of criticism of RT and is no fan of mainstream U.S. media, so you get to hear both sides of the issue.
