Thirty-eight students from Mountain Valley Middle School, Rumford, spent three days at Mystic Seaport recently, learning how to throw harpoons, climb rigging and live life like it was the 1800s. Frigid temperatures didn’t stop the students from learning and developing relationships. The students are pictured on an 1800s Dutch training vessel, the “Joseph Conrad,” where they slept in suspended bunks and shared space.
