The Orono Police Department, in partnership with the Maine Law Enforcement Torch Run, is organizing a benefit Golf Tournament to support Special Olympics Maine. The lead sponsors for the tournament are Ski Rack Sports of Bangor and the All New Old Town Canoe Predator Kayaks.

This is an opportunity to swing clubs for a great cause at one of Maine’s premier golf clubs. The tournament will be held at the Penobscot Valley Country Club in Orono on Thursday, June 5 and will begin at noon with a shotgun start. The format for the tournament is a 4 person team, best ball scramble.

As you may know the Maine Special Olympics Summer Games kick off on Friday, June 6 with the last leg of the Law Enforcement Torch Run taking place in and around the Orono area. The Orono Police Department is inviting anyone possible who is already in the area enjoying the golf tournament the day before to stick around and take part in the final leg of the torch run and to help bring the torch to the University of Maine Campus and take part in the parade.

Costs for the tournament are $70 per player, or $280 per team.This includes the greens fees for 18 holes, one cart for two players, and a barbecue dinner after play. There also is a guest fee option of $25, which includes use of the facility’s pool and the barbecue dinner.

The police department currently is still looking for a live band to play for the dinner after the event; if you are involved in a band or know someone that would like to be involved please, don’t hesitate to get in touch with the department.
