DEAR SUN SPOTS: I was in the 103rd infantry 43rd Division in World War II in the South Pacific from 1941-45. If there is anyone from Maine in that unit for that time period, please contact me. I would like to know if anyone from that time period is still living. — Sgt. 1st Class Douglas M. Clark, Lisbon, 207-353-1625

ANSWER: Along with any responses you might get through the column, the website for the World War II memorial (www.wwiimemorial.com) may be of some interest to you. Although the primary focus seems to be a registry for those who were killed or are missing in action, it looks like there is a place where you can search for veterans or others who served the war effort in some way.

If you aren’t good with computers, your librarian can help you. Pick a quiet time, when the library is not likely to be crowded with computer users so they will have time to help you.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: This is the time of year that class reunions are being planned. I am the secretary to the Edward Little High School Alumni Association and keep a running record of these reunions. Many classmates contact me from out of state for information on their reunion.

If you are in the process of planning, please let me know where, when (date and time) and who the contact person would be. I will then be able to assist you in finding your missing classmates. Thank you. — Diane Freve, our2hounds@megalink.net, 207-224-7348

Sheila Brown, Renette Cloutier, Carmen Cressey, Don Guilmette, Robert Hahn, Terry Jordan and Jim Carpenter.

We would love to contact them. Please let us know if you have any information. Thank you. — Julie Therrien, bnjtherrien@gmail.com, and Gregg Perry, lvis219@megalink.net

ANSWER: Julie’s printing was very tidy, but Sun Spots was a little unsure whether there was a “v” or a “u” in Gregg’s email. If lvis219 doens’t work, try luis219.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: We are having our 31st annual reunion of the Association des descendants de Jacques Bussiere Inc. from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. June 7 at the Ramada Conference Center, 490 Pleasant St., Lewiston. Details and forms are on the website www.adjb.ca — Ray Bussiere, 818 Silvercrest Drive, Myrtle Beach, SC 29579-4153, 843-236-1727, 843-450-5970 (cell), rbuss2@aol.com

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I just love your column; it’s my favorite part of the paper. In Looking Back on Dec. 23 for 1988 there was a paragraph about the fate of a small building perched on the edge of the canal by the Main Street bridge:

“The vacant and dilapidated gray wooden structure at 1 Canal St. may be repaired and become a sandwich shop. The Union Water Power Co. owns the land under the building, which for years was a restaurant and still wears the Schlitz Beer sign of its most recent reincarnation as the Knotty Pine Grill. However, the building may have to be torn down. The former grill, which also was a tavern, lies within the boundaries of Central Maine Power Co.’s $55-million hydroelectric project. Also, the Maine Department of Transportation is planning to widen the southwest corner of Main and Canal streets during a reconstruction of the Main Street Bridge planned to begin in 1990.”

That building was demolished by our company, Roland’s Demolition (known as Roland the Homewrecker) in September 1990 under contract with the MDOT.

I just found my albums containing all jobs we have done (and are still doing). I have pictures from before, during and after the job was completed. I just thought I would let people know what happened to the building. Keep up the great work. — Avid Reader via email
