1932 – 2014

LEWISTON — Lorraine H. Felker, 81, of Lewiston passed away on Wednesday, April 2, with her family by her side, after a short stay at Marshwood Healthcare Center.

She was born in Mechanic Falls on Nov. 27, 1932, as one of seven children to Eva (Coffin) and Thomas Culleton.

On Jan. 9, 1954, she married Charles “Moose” Felker Sr. They resided in Mechanic Falls all of their married lives and raised two daughters and a son. In the early years of her marriage, Lorraine was a stay-at-home mom. She loved family and friend gatherings. Christmas was by far her favorite holiday. They took great pride in decorating their home, inside and out.

In 1958, Charlie became co-owner of C & C Service Station on Pleasant Street in Mechanic Falls. Eventually, Lorraine became the bookkeeper, a job she performed until the garage was sold in 1996. She held several other jobs over the years, including making slipcovers and draperies and working in customer service for the Cummings Insurance Agency.

She loved cooking and baking. She especially loved baking and decorating cakes for special family occasions. She enjoyed cake decorating so much that she graduated from simple birthday cakes to beautiful and elaborate wedding cakes. This connected and endeared her to so many people.

When their children were young, the family spent time at their camp on Hogan Pond in Oxford.

Sewing, crocheting, knitting, crafts and cross-stitch were also among her many hobbies and talents that she passed on to her two daughters. Lorraine was an avid bingo player. She loved casino trips and playing poker with her friends. Over the years, she and Charlie spent several vacations in Las Vegas. How they loved Las Vegas!

In later years, after Charlie retired, they wintered for several years in Florida, where they enjoyed going to estate sales, flea markets and just sitting by the pool. Lorraine was an avid sun bather. Lorraine resided in Mechanic Falls until her health began to fail and she moved from her home to The Meadows in Greene, where her longtime friend, Connie Pettis, was staying.

Lorraine was a member of Eastern Star, Dwinal Chapter No. 28, and the American Legion Auxiliary Post No. 150; she recently received her 45-year membership pin.
