FARMINGTON — Franklin County Soil & Water Conservation District is hosting a silent auction from 5:15 to 6:15 p.m. during their annual meeting at the West Farmington Grange Hall on Friday, April 11.

A turkey dinner will be offered at 5:30 followed by brief presentations from Cathee Pullman, USDA – NRCS Assistant State Conservationist, and Walter Witcomb, Commissioner of Agriculture, Forestry, and Conservation. Each will discuss opportunities and the direction each agency is headed.

The auction will offer items that include flats of fresh tomatoes, a bucket of hydraulic oil, a screw driver set as well as certificates for firewood, teeth whitening, oil changes, maple syrup, KFC and Calzolaio.

Verna and David Pike will be honored as conservation farmers of the year for 2013 and Scot and Jon Bubier will be honored as the 2013 conservation woodlot owners of the year. District and Earth Team volunteers will also be presented certificates and a small token of appreciation by an NRCS employee and conservation district supervisor.

The evening will end with a presentation by John and Penny Duncan of York Hill Farm in New Sharon on goat cheese production along with cheese samples to taste.

Preregistration is $13 per person made payable to FCSWCD and mailed to or dropped off at 107 Park St., Farmington. All prepaid guests will have a ticket placed in a box for the early registration prize drawing.
