PORTLAND (AP) — Officials in Portland expect a smooth transition as a city-run health care clinic for the homeless scales back operations, while another nonprofit clinic picks up the slack.
The Portland Press Herald (http://bit.ly/1jqc7Qk ) reported that there had been concerns about a coverage gap.
But Sheila Hill-Christian, Portland’s deputy city manager, wrote in a memo to the City Council’s Public Safety, Health and Human Services Committee that because of “recent staffing efforts” by the Portland Community Health Center “all parties are more confident that what was once considered to be a potentially large gap” in medical services to the homeless “is not a significant issue.”
The city’s Health Care for the Homeless program is scaling back following the loss of a federal grant that provided about a third of its budget.
