DEAR SUN SPOTS: I have been given a Garden Way’s Squeezo Strainer. The instruction manual was not included. Is there anyone who could provide me with this instruction manual? A copy would be fine. I will pay for any postage or copying. Thank you. — Diane Freve, our2hounds@megalink.net

ANSWER: Sun Spots found one online, free for the printing, and there are probably others as well. Check out www.scottenterprises.com/images/The_Squeezo_Strainer_Book.pdf

Many, if not most, instruction manuals are available online, although some do cost.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I was just reading about meatloaf (April 7). The best is when I put in jelly any kind. I have even used hot-pepper jelly. Add a large tablespoon’s worth. — Fran, Fryeburg

ANSWER: Sun Spots has never heard of using jelly before, or applesauce, as in the next recipe.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: In response to the March 14 recipe requests, here are the most delicious recipes one can make.

Mix cooked hamburger, mashed potatoes, onion and ketchup together. Stuff peppers. Cover with buttered bread crumbs. Bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for a half-hour until peppers are tender.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: If you are a baker, Tommy’s Feral Feline Friends could use your talents for the Spring Fling event on May 3. We need all the bakers we can get to make it a success. You won’t even need to deliver your baked goods because Norm Blais will pick up the food from the bakers.

This requires just a bit of planning, so this means that your yummy baked goods will need to be ready on May 1. If you can bake for Tommy’s, please call Norm at 207-650-8374 or email him at normblais39@yahoo.com as soon as possible.

The event will be at the Pet Life in the Shaw’s Plaza at 152 Western Ave. in Augusta from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 3.

Tommy’s is a volunteer, no-kill organization and receives no official funding, relying solely on donations and the results of events like the Spring Fling to keep going. Tommy’s strives to support abandoned cats that live a feral existence as a result of human abandonment.

Volunteers build and maintain outdoor shelters to help protect the cats through all kinds of weather. Not only do they bring food and water for the cats, but they stay with them while they feed so they can eat free of fear from predators. The paths to these shelters must be cleared after each snowfall or heavy rain. Some of the shelters are hundreds of feet into the woods; one shelter is a mile in.

Tommy’s also provides spaying and neutering, vaccinations and medical care for sick and injured animals. While some cats come from too many generations of feral living to be domesticated, for the ones who can be, Tommy’s provides foster care and rehabilitation, with the goal of eventual adoption.

We all know what a long, hard winter it’s been, and the drain on Tommy’s resources has been severe. Lending your baking talents to help all of the desperate kitties that this worthy organization serves would be a great way to welcome a much-needed spring. Thank you. — Jenora@aol.com

ANSWER: If you can’t bake but would still like to help, you can send a donation to P.O. Box 274, Greene ME 04236.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: The South Paris American Legion would like to invite new members to its next meeting at 6 p.m. April 9 at 12 Church St. Thank you. — Dominik Klinger, kling598@aol.com
