STRONG — Selectmen decided Tuesday night to hold an emergency session Friday to sign a warrant for a town meeting to vote on a construction project.

At the March 22 annual town meeting, voters approved of replacing the roof on the town office section of the Forster Memorial Building. Building contractor Jeff Murphy will do the roof work. He provided figures for replacing the siding, scheduled to be done after the roof was finished.

Selectmen agreed Tuesday they would prefer Murphy to start in May, if possible. Town Treasurer Sandra Mitchell confirmed there is $8,000 in a reserve account, and another $3,500 from Forster Memorial Building funds to complete the job.

“We have to have an emergency selectmen’s meeting at 4 p.m. on Friday, April 11, to sign the warrant,” Chairman Jim Burrill said.

Holding the meeting on Friday will allow the board to sign and post the warrant for the 6 p.m. town meeting April 22 and giving the legally required seven-day public notice, Mitchell said.

April 22 also is the date of the next selectmen’s meeting, which begins at 7 p.m.

In other news, selectmen appointed fire Chief Duayne Boyd as emergency management officer. He will start updating the town emergency management plan.
