THE VILLAGES, Fla. — Heywood “Bud” M. Leighton, 83, of Turner and The Villages, Fla., died Thursday, April 3, in The Villages.

He was born in Portland on Aug. 22, 1930, a son of the late Harry and Francis (Johnson) Leighton Sr. Bud worked for several years at BIW and was a former member of St. Louis Church.

Bud enjoyed watching baseball, especially following his Yankees. He also enjoyed going to breakfast and then taking a ride in his red Jeep with his dog at his side, wintering in Florida and being alone at home watching TV.

He leaves his son, Robert “Bob” Leighton and his wife, Claire, of Minot; a son-in-law, Randy Sherman, of Mechanic Falls; three grandchildren, Heather Swallow and husband, Jonathan, of Dyer Brook, Robie Leighton and wife, Jessica, of Minot and Shane Sherman of Mechanic Falls; a great-granddaughter, Leigha Swallow; and three brothers, Harry Leighton Jr. of Auburn, Larry Leighton and wife, Carol, of Florida and Randall Leighton of Texas.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Barbara (Nason) Leighton; his second wife, Bernadette (Baillargeon) Leighton; a daughter, Joyce Sherman; and two brothers, Frederick and Edward Leighton.
